Travel News & Reviews, Delivered Weekly
Hi Reader
Welcome Back to Destination: Luxe Weekly If you thought 2026travel news was going to be quiet, think again. This week is loud, opinionated, and impossible to ignore. Disney is swinging for the fences, Carnival is flirting with a bold (and risky) adults-only move, and Virgin Voyages is trying to sweet-talk loyalty elites from other brands. Some of it has me fired up. Some of it has me skeptical. All of it has implications for how—and where—you should be booking next
Let’s get into it
The Luxe Lowdown
🚢Disney Cruise Line: The Adventure Levels Up
Disney Cruise Line has officially pulled back the curtain further on Disney Adventure, and this ship is shaping up to be a monster—in the best way. Set to become the largest ship in the Disney fleet, Adventure isn’t just about size; it’s about scale with intention. The onboard attractions look immersive, cinematic, and unmistakably Disney, while the retail spaces feel elevated enough to justify lingering instead of rushing through
What excites me most is that Disney seems willing to push beyond its comfort zone. This doesn’t feel like a recycled formula—it feels like a statement. If Disney delivers on this vision, Adventure won’t just be another ship; it’ll be a floating destination that raises the bar for family cruising globally. Big ship. Bigger expectations
Carnival is expanding adults-only cruises for 2026, and I’ll admit—it has my attention. This is a bold move for a brand known for fun-first, mass-market cruising. While Carnival will never be Virgin Voyages (and shouldn’t try to be), carving out kid-free sailings could attract a curious, experience-driven audience
The real question is value. Will the adults-only premium feel justified, or will it simply be the same Carnival experience with fewer kids and higher fares? If Carnival invests in elevated programming, nightlife, and dining, this could work. If not, the shine fades quickly. It’s a smart experiment—but one that needs serious follow-through to earn repeat bookings
🔥Virgin Voyages’ Status Match: Tempting, But Is It Deep Enough?
Virgin Voyages has launched a Sailing Club status match, and on the surface, it’s a savvy play. Status matches can be incredibly compelling—especially if you’re already top-tier with another cruise line. It lowers the barrier to trying Virgin, and that’s exactly the point
That said, I’m not fully sold. Virgin’s loyalty benefits still don’t feel as deep or rewarding as those offered by legacy cruise brands. The perks are nice, but not transformative. If you’re loyalty-curious, this is a great excuse to test the waters. If you’re fiercely loyal elsewhere, Virgin still has work to do. Smart move—but not a knockout punch
One unapologetic cheat code I use for long flights—domestic or international—is bringing a seat cushion like the Purple Ultimate Seat Cushion. It’s not glamorous, but it’s a game-changer. Better posture, less pressure, and way less stiffness when you land. It instantly upgrades any economy seat and makes long-haul flights far more tolerable. Small item. Massive payoff
